Our "Innovators in flowerbulbs" slogan particularly refers to our extensive breeding programme for bulbous and tuberous plants. Breeding is one of our core activities and is conducted under the Kapiteyn Breeding BV name.

In developing new and exclusive varieties of bulbous and tuberous plants, we closely cooperate with other companies who are members in well-known growers associations such as Remarkable (tulips), Orientalis (hyacints) and Marklily (lilies). Since the early 1990s, we have also been managing our own development programme for new varieties of Calla's, which are brought to the market through the Captain Select growers association.


Our objective is to develop new exclusive bulbous and tuberous plants, based on cooperation, innovation and technology. The added value of the new selections is the major selling point for these newly introduced varieties. At Kapiteyn, quality represents a combination of excellent growing power and high disease resistance. These requirements must also be combined with good flowering and breeding qualities.

In addition to breeding at a separate location, we also operate under Kapiteyn Speciale Culturen BV name which is intensively engaged in cultivating bulbous and tuberous plants. This takes place in the Northern sandy area, the world's largest flowerbulb area under cultivation.

The main flower bulbs that we grow on more than 60 hectares of high-quality bulb soil are:

•    Calla's

In addition to breeding and cultivation, trade and export are also core activities of our family business. Many of the varieties that we cultivate are exclusively grown for export. In addition to exclusivity, we distinguish ourselves through quality. Eighty percent of our own cultivated products are exported worldwide under the Kapiteyn BV name.

We offer our customers professional sales and grower support. This also complements our "Innovators in flowerbulbs" slogan.
Kapiteyn provides prepared flowerbulbs to professional forcers of cut flowers and potted plants in the Netherlands and abroad. Our cultivation advisors also prepare planting and forcing schedules at the customer’s request.

We deliver breeding material for the following products:

And other flowerbulbs and perennials.
